A high school diploma or GED certificate is required.  Most junior colleges offer programs in operating room technology, and training.  Programs can go from one year to two years.  Students receive training in medical terminology, physiology, and sterilization methods.  At the end of the training period students must pass an examination by the Association of Surgical Technologists to become certified.

Reflection: I wouldn't be able to do this job because its a lot of pressure and it's very scary. I wouldn't be able to see someone open up or watch all the blood that comes out. I admire the people who do this because it takes a lot of courage. I simply can't be in a room where someones life depends on me.
