Operating Room Technician
Duties and Responsibilities:
Operating room technicians can also be called surgical technicians or
surgical technologists. They prepare operating rooms
for surgery; are responsible for having surgical instruments,
sterile bandages and linens, needed fluids, and other equipment ready for
the operation. Also help doctors by handing them needed
instruments during surgery and for counting sponges and needles before
and after the operation. They deliver specimens to hospital laboratories
for analysis, and after operations they take patients to the recovery room.
Salary:
$16,000-$22,000
Education:
A high school diploma or GED certificate is required. Most junior colleges offer programs in operating room technology, and training. Programs can go from one year
to two years. Students receive training in medical terminology, physiology,
and sterilization methods. At the end of the training period students
must pass an examination by the Association of Surgical Technologists to
become certified.

Reflection: I wouldn't be able to do this job because its a lot of pressure and it's very scary. I wouldn't be able to see someone open up or watch all the blood that comes out. I admire the people who do this because it takes a lot of courage. I simply can't be in a room where someones life depends on me.
